Recently, Food Banks Canada has released their statistics on food bank usage and the results are more than discouraging.
Every year, the group releases its Hunger Count report which counts the number of people using a food bank nation-wide.
This year, though the numbers show a 2% decrease from the usage last year, food banks are still being used 26% more than in 2008/2009.
We have also noticed an increase in the usage of their food bank, as well as the soup kitchen, but is surprised at the rate that they've been used throughout the county.
There's abundant opportunity and people have access. What are we doing wrong as a community or society where people are going to struggle and live in poverty?
According to Food Banks Canada, over 851,000 people received helped from food banks in Canada.
People are struggling to make ends meet even if they are working they might just need that little extra to hold them over for the next month.
Every community needs to invest the time, resources and energy to reduce poverty in the community and, therefore, create an abundant community.
Why wouldn't you want everyone to have access to the basic needs of life ?
As for the local food bank, the usage rates continue to increase and now, with their clientele reaching over 1,000 people a month, they need our help.
